Was about ten minutes late getting into the woods. Got set up on my roosted bird as luck would have it he flew down further down the ridge and started gobbling after a hen on the far ridge. He was gone.
About twenty minutes later a gobble to the right struck out back from where I come. I called for a few minutes with him but he was not moving. I moved towards him about 200 yards. Stopped caught my
Breath and heard him again right in front of me deep in the woods. I slip in the woods, plop down by a tree sun to my back I hit my call and he gobbles. He's 60-75 yards ahead. I let out a couple of calls with my mouth call and here they come. 4 Jakes. They come running through the woods and almost run me over. Three feet from me. They work past me around me and back the way they came. This takes about 40 minutes. One turkey hung up behind a fallen tree and then he starts gobbling. Once he does that, the Jakes I could see work their back the way they came talking up a storm. I would call they would call back they would come back and then leave again. Eventually they all worked their way along the ridge but just in the wrong direction. Had a blast.
Never saw the Tom but it sounded like he wanted to come in. If I did something obviously wrong Id love to hear your input! Thanks.

You did nothing wrong, just turkeys being turkeys. One thing you might try next time is stop calling once a bird appears to be coming to you. Make them search for you a little. They can pinpoint so well, and expect the hen to step out, not stay stationary. So usually when you all and they're close, they either pick you off or ease off when they don't see a hen.

It's really hard to not call when one hangs up, but you have to believe he will break if you are just patient and let him come.

Good advice. That is hard not to call. I told myself " ok no more calling" two minutes later I'm calling. Thanks for the input. I had a blast and I learned something.
