I was wondering if any of you have one of these in the 20 gauge model. I am thinking of getting one of these as the thought of hunting with a single shot is intriguing to me. I have read really good reviews on the 410 but not much on the 20 gauge. It comes with a rail for optics and the choke tube is designed for federal TSS from what I understand. Just wondering if anyone had one and your thoughts? Thanks!

I've got a 301, but it's not the Turkey version. I bought it before they came out with that model. I drilled and tapped it for a mount and added a .575 choke. I put it together and then ended up buying the 410 Turkey version and hunting with it instead.

That looks good hillbilly! I bet it's light as a feather! I don't think Savage realized how popular the gun would be and didn't make enough supply for the demand they had right before turkey season. I know the 410 model with TSS #9 was a popular combination for people. I watched some videos and the patterns were amazing for a 410. I have 3 20 gauge set ups but I see nothing wrong with another so I am looking at getting the 20 gauge version.

What rail did you use on this gun?

I had called and looked all over and finally a gun shop near me had a distributor that got one in . I ordered it in obsession camo as that's the only one he could get at this time. The camo pattern really didn't matter to me anyway. I hope it shoots as good as what I have read! I should have it in a week or so.

I honestly don't remember which rail it was, I dug around in my bin of spare parts and pieces and found one that worked best.

Factory choke 40 yards with Federal # 9 TSS! I believe it will be a good one! Shot it with the bead and it's on. Put a red dot on and that was my only shot from 40 after adjustment with light loads. Not bad!

Any one know which choke system the Savage/Stevens 301 Turkey uses. Thinking about another choke for it.

There were a couple left @ the sporting goods store at Dickson. This was just before Christmas.

Yes it is the win choke system , I have a Carlson 575 that fits the Savage 301and it is the win choke. The factory choke shot really well for me so I have not tried the Carlson yet. I intend to shoot more before turkey season as I got the gun after season and only shot it a few times.

Like others have said, it's the Win choke. I picked mine up from the Dickson store as well.

Just ordered one from buds guns for my wife and daughter to hunt with. Depending on how it shoots I may order another just for me. It doesn't feel like turkey season without carrying my 835.

I was just like you timberjack , I killed lots of birds with my 835 and thought I would never part with it. I bought a 20 gauge youth model Mossberg Maverick for my son and that was it! I started patterning the gun and realized how well it shot and how much lighter it was so I started hunting with it. I now have The Mossberg sa 20 turkey thug, Tri star raptor youth, Mossberg 500, and Savage 301! I no longer have the 835! Be careful man because once you see how light and how well they pattern you may become a 20 gauge addict like myself!

Thanks for your help.

I was about to ask what choke system too. I was hoping Win-Choke because my other guns have that. Thanks.
