Savage 99

I've got one in .308, and it's one of my favorite rifles. I love it because it's a great combination of the best of both worlds. The feel in hand of a lever action (it carries very well, even scoped) and the capability to handle cartridges with pointy bullets.

The only thing I don't like about them is that the triggers aren't the best. But, there are ways to fix that.

They are somewhat polarizing. Some people think that they're as ugly as sin, whereas other think that they are an American classic. They have limitations (aren't made anymore, limited aftermarket regular or tacticool parts available, hit or miss trigger quality, etc), but are really cool as the compromise (that has already been mentioned) of lever gun/bolt action without being as heavy or bougie as a Browning BLR.

I have a late model 99A, in 250 savage, which is one of my absolute favorite rifles to carry and shoot. I put too much scope on it and the balance is off right now. But it has been the demise of quite a few deer over the years. Without the scope it is very sleek. The action is solid and smooth. They have gone up in value quite a bit lately, so I was considering selling it. But, I took it out this year, and fell in love all over again.

The stock dimensions, specifically the drop at the comb make it less than Optimum for using a scope. As far as the crappy trigger pull goes I've encountered a few that were horrendous. I've tried working on some of them with very limited success at improving the trigger pull.

Sounds like Snowwolf might be willing to part with his, judging from his post above. That'd be a great rifle.
I would. Would rather sell it locally than deal with buyer paying sales tax and shipping on Gunbrokers. I would sell mine for $600 firm, the scope and rings would be removed. Or buyer could add $400 for the Leupold 1.5x5 Matt finished scope and Warne rings.
PM me your number or email and I can send photos.

Probably the first rifle in our household that I could actually identify with any detail. My dad's deer rifle it was a Savage 99 and it was 300 Savage in the rifle rack. By the time I was in fourth grade or so it was gone to be replaced by a Sako in 308.
