I was driving over to check on my boat dock on Ft. Loudon this evening and ran over Bambi. I was driving down a curvy road when a deer jumped across the road in front of me slamming itself into the side of an oncoming car before then falling down in the road right in front of me. Before I could react I ran over it in the old family van I was driving and saw it roll around in the road in my rear view mirror. I figured it was dead, but after turning around and driving by it I could see it was very much alive with its head up and trying to get up. So, I turned around and pulled out the deer drag I always have with me and wrapped it around its neck and dragged it over into the ditch. It was still trying to get up so I grabbed both sides of it and helped it get to its feet and it scrambled-crawled-limped off into the woods. No damage to the van. I'd give it a 50/50 chance of survival because I have seen deer hit by cars just get up and walk off the road before. I hope it makes it and we meet up again in a month or two because it sure wasn't worth gutting, skinning, and butchering unless it gains at least 75 more pounds!
