On the job going up a driveway for a delivery there was a hen with somewhere between 8 to 12 chicks that were fresh out of the egg. Off a road that I know is loaded with turkey. They're doing fine around there for sure.
On another note I am really starting to miss turkey season. Been editing some video from the past season and reliving some of the best (and worst) moments of the season. I always hate how quick it goes by. It started out as the worst season I've had yet, and ended up being one of the best.
One thing I noticed is the turkey population seems to be holding steady in my area, which consists of 3 or 4 counties. But the hunting was really tough for me the first half of season, even though I hunted more often than work. I'm sure the tough hunting had some to do with the lower statewide harvest, but I'm still concerned about the population in some areas across the state. I just hope I don't see that kind of unexplained decline in my area. I don't know what's caused it in some places, it's more than just hunters killing toms, it's whole flocks dissipating. Just glad it's not everywhere.
