I have never used a trail camera before and I am only semi tech savvy. What will I need besides the camera itself (cards, etc) and what brands do you prefer?

Thanks

You should get a lot of answers but to begin with it all depends on what you want out of a camera, what you'll settle for, and how much you're willing to invest. Right or wrong, I choose to run one that I know won't fail me and will last for years. I'm speaking of a ReconyX. They run about $500+. Or you can go the route of sacrificing some (and sometimes all) of the reliability for more than one camera. This way you can cover twice or three times the territory as one expensive camera.

$10 battery tester will pay its way real quick.
Got to have a way to view your cards. I use a Cannon Sureshot and card readers are available from $50 and up.

My 2 2016 Covert MP8 Blacks have worked flawlessly since july. Many thousands of pics. 2 year warranty also.
1 2015 Covert still going strong also.

2014 Covert Black 60 extream has been junk since day one. They have replaced it twice. Bout gave up on this one, pics are very poor quality when ever the trigger doesn't stick.

I still use 2 old Moultries that work great set on day pics only. I don't want any camera that flashes.

Lithium batteries are nice as they last 4x longer, there's nothing worse than checking a camera that its batteries had been dead for a week. I just use my laptop to view pics or a memory card reader if i'm using my smart phone. So far my Wildgame Innovations cameras have outlasted my Browning and Moultrie cameras. Also, security boxes are nice if you're putting them in a spot that they can be stolen.

Anybody have any experience with Eyecon cameras ? I bought 2 Crossfires and so far have been happy with the quality of the daytime pics, the nighttime pics aren't the best but I have seen worse. Any feedback would be appreciated.
