My son decided he wanted to use a scope this year so we mounted my old scope mounted on his gun. I got him a GoPro for Christmas and it's going to work nicely. We are going to sight it in tomorrow.

Looks good..... Did you use a screw in the front hole? Check it after mounting the rail to see if the barrel would slide off as usual?

I have been thinking about getting a GoPro camera as well to film our hunts....

I used all 4 screws and I didn't check the barrel but I will today when I deep clean it. Thanks for the heads up.

Spurhunter,
Post how the GoPro stands up, I'm interested in purchasing one myself. My friend has one on a big bore rifle, standing up real well.

My early review on the GoPro: It is awesome for short yardage. It stood up well to turkey loads yesterday. However, zoom is limited. My soon killed a deer at 60-70 yards in the woods and we couldn't see the deer on camera. I think it will be ok for turkey hunting with shots being less than 50 yards. It will be awesome for fishing. The wifi feature allowing you to see what the camera sees and control the cam from your phone is really nice. For less than $300 it is pretty neat and we will get plenty use out of it turkey hunting and fishing. Also it's waterproof to 196 feet. But, if you are buying one strictly to film hunts in the woods, there may be better options out there.

You will know instantly..... if the barrel don't slide off as normal, you might as well take the screw out and put a plug in to fill the hole (you will have to take the scope off to loosen the screw anyway). There isn't much meat there anyway for threads.... If your screw tightened down, it most likely tightened down against the barrel.... least in my previous experience.

Came right off. Apparently the screws that came with the rail are exactly the right length. The last one tightened down good and it's flush with the bottom of the threads. Guess I'll bite the bullet and deep clean this nasty barrel now. I haven't even cleaned our muzzleloaders yet, but hey, it's about priorities!
