Scout style scope for kids

I'm thinking about getting my son a 350 legend in ruger american/CVA scout for Christmas. He is 8 now and will be 9 come next hunting season. He is built like me alligator style (short arms/legs) so I'm thinking about looking at a scout style scope for the long eye relief. Anyone ever done this for a youth? Have any recommendations for longer eye relief?

I put a red dot on my son's 30-30 for his first few years. I wanted the eye relief plus the ability to find a deer easily in the scope. He was also right handed and left eye dominant. I used a cheaper Bushnell trs-25, but it did the trick. I think he killed 7 deer with it prior to moving to a scope.

I did a scout scope for my kids for their first year. It really helped them get used to using a scope. They have switched since once they learned to use a normal scope.
