I had a small cedar scratch box made by an old timer from Ark but broke it after a couple years use. Sure sounded sweet but not a lot of volume. As far as friction calls, I started out with a box call and still carry one along with a few other calls. It's been the demise of many a bird. You can make all kinds of calls with it including the gobble; soft or loud and almost anybody can use one. Keep it sanded and chalked up and you could probably only carry that one call to the field. The only downside to them is that it takes motion and 2 hands to use them and you could possibly blow an opportunity at close birds. You can somewhat disguise that motion but then you still have to move from call to gun.
