I am scheduling all my vacation for turkey season now. The last day I've put in for is May 3rd. With season open til May 17th I wonder if the last 2 weeks will be any good or if the birds will be done. Seems like after the first week of May it gets dead. What say you?

Around my area it really gets slow going come May BUT if you get one to fire up they are usually very easy to call.

Again that's my areas

Sent from my phone because I'm that cool

I love May around here, usually I'm out of tags but if I can find someone to take it's generally the best part of the season

They are pretty call shy by then in some places I hunt that get pressured alot. I enjoy hunting before the green up.

Kinda what I was thinking REN. Setterman, I know hens are few and far between, but you don't find the longbeards losing interest after the first of May?

Most certainly no, in fact I always got to South Georgia in mid May and find them very receptive. Imo birds get crazier the later it gets, and only get disinterested when hunted by foolish tactics that makes them spooky, or there's nasty dominant birds on a property

It tends to slow down toward the end but definitely doesn't go dead, I've had luck in late season more than once

Sent from the talk of tap

I agree with what others have said...it can still be good late in he season. One of the biggest factors for me late that can work either for or against is everything's really leafed out by then but the birds will definitely work.

I hunt Morgan county so I fail to see your point. See my post above for the reasons you might have a tough time

I'd rather have the first two weeks. That's when I really get after it

I considered taking the first couple weeks of season. A couple years ago I was off the first 19 days of season. Now I space it out. Right now I scheduled off so that I'll be working Monday-Wednesday the first 5 weeks of season, with some unscheduled days in my pocket for days I have a really good feeling about.

I was just messing around setterman. What parts of the county do you hunt? There's birds here for sure if ya can keep alot of ppl from calling the fire out of them. If ya tag put early holler at me and I'd be more than happy to have ya join me. I'm always anxious to learn more about these pesky thunder chickens
