I got my second turkey ever this morning. Had to leave by 7 to come watch my boys since this sitter is sick.
Heard one gobble before light. Made my way to the field. He was on the very back of the field by the lake. I could see more in the trees back there at first light. They all flew down across the creek though. I started to make a move and noticed something in the field over there. It was the gobbler. He stayed in 1 spot and gobbled his head off. I start moving again then noticed a hen coming to him. Then more turkeys.
Well I just mimicked the hen and one of them started in my direction. The others turned out to be jakes. They kept the gobbler at bay and followed the hen. She eventually got within about 30 yds dragging the 4 Jake's with her. I picked the biggest one and dropped the hammer.
Can't believe it worked out with the little amount of time I had. Wish it was the big boy but I'm happy!
Now I just gotta figure out how to clean it while home watching my 1 and 2 year old boys.
