Ok I got a new string from 3 rivers .Measured it out from string groove to string groove, strung the bow and it looked a little long to me but... I went ahead and nocked it 1/8 above center and went outside - and yes it hurt !! there is a knot and it left a mark :D OK I thought I could get the right string and set it up etc and shoot... and finaly get the bow my wife bought me in the woods - cant shoot it.. brace hight is too low.Now I thought I could unstring the bow when not in use, but if I twist the string to get clearance for my wrist..I cant unstring it or it will untwist and mess my nock poing up and everything right ????
Now dont get me wrong these are complications that go with the Traditional Shooting but I really didnt want to leave my bow strung - its older than I am and I wanted to keep it as safe as possible.... so what do I or what can I do guys ???

side note - brace hight of string out of package was 4 inches-- twisted at 6 inches right now but I have not gone back outside -

well a bowstring is roughly 4" shorter than the bow. 68" bow 64" string. Don't take the string off the limb when you unstring it. The loop should be big enough to slide down the limb. When you unstring it just slide the string loop down below the string groove and leave it on the upper limb and in the bottom string groove.

Brace height stays the same. If its dacron which it should be on an old bow it will stretch a little after some shooting.

thanks !!! never crossed my mind - I have never done mine like that,,,but now I understand why its done that way... I havent ever used a stringer ,guess I will have to learn huh !

Hey, Bobby. How is it going?

The length of your bow should be marked on it somewhere. The string for a longbow should be approximately 3" shorter than the bow. Assuming it is a flemish twist string and approximately the right length to begin with, you can twist it to get the proper brace height. The proper brace height is where the bow shoots the quietest with the least handshock....aka the "sweet spot". Your knock point of 1/8" above center may very well be too low. You need to experiment with raising it a little.

A bow stringer is nice. Just unstring the top loop and slide it down the bow as mentioned above.

Hey Phil ! how are you doin?
I did get the flemish string and its still hitting me right below my thumb,I shoot a couple (ouch)then twist a couple turns and shoot again. It is getting better.Brace is probably between 6-7 inches right now.Not sure if grip is my problem now, but I cant seem to grip it any other way than a firm full closed hand grip, seems like I need to hold it with a firm grip. The only markings on the bow are - c-9430 46# .Other than that the BEAR Logo,Cub and "Patent applied for" are the only things on it.I am shooting from 11 yards and arrow flight is ok from what I can tell - I am canting bow a little to the right and anchor is not quit to the corner of mouth with fingers...looks like it will take some time and practice to get a solid form down but it is coming -arrows go where I want them if I do it right...I dont know if I will keep using this Bow and may get a newer longbow or recurve down the road but the plan is to take at least one deer with this bow and maybe retire it.This little bow is very old ,arrow will need a perfect shot in ribcage and good penetration.Shot will have to be inside 15 yards and this is more than possible where I am hunting.Stand is right on major trail.Anyway - thanks for all the advice,it has been so long since I had messed with the Old stuff I had forgotten most of it.
