SG 550 night pictures

I have a SG 550 that up until recently worked flawlessly but now all pictures taken at night are blacked out, the flash is working as I can activaite the cam and see the LEDs glow. I have changed batteries, looked for obvisous defects, sat it beside a working SG 550 to compare flash etc, can't see anything out of the ordinary. Anyone got any explanation for this and a quick fix?

Sounds like for some reason the camera cant read the flash. I'm not familiar with SG 550 so I really don't know if it can be fixed.
 
Sounds like there's something wrong with the imager (not "seeing" the red-glow light). Or it could be that the IR filter is stuck (won't move over the camera lens). A bad imager is not fixable. A stuck IR filter arm is.
