Hate I missed the bulk of the other one, but it will have a huge effect on the Vols, so let's try again.

Here are some quotes on the hire:

Bruce Feldman

Bob Shoop will be the #Vols new DC. Great hire for Tennessee.
 
I'll admit, the only thing I really know about him is he had top 25 defenses all three years at Vandy. Yes Vandy. He also had the #3 ranked defense his first year at PSU.


I think it is pretty telling that PSU fans are pissed because they felt like he was the best coach they had. Auburn seems to be disgruntled because he didn't really give them a chance and they evidently wanted him pretty bad. I have read that he wouldn't even answer Malzahns calls. I have also read that LSU "settled" for Kevin Steele when they couldn't get Shoop on board. A few gators on VN have said that this was a good hire as well as the new TE coach from Miami. All of the haters on here with the exception of curdog, has been pretty quiet about this hire also.


Dave Hart also did something he is not known for doing and that is opening the checkbook and signing a three year deal. Time will tell.


I also like this part about what he says about his defensive philosophy.


"Our identity is we're an in‑your‑face style of defense that's going to be fun to watch and even more fun for our players to play, I promise you that,'' Shoop said. "It is based on two premises, relentless pursuit and never‑ending pressure. First thing I say to the guys all the time is everyone has a game plan until they get punched in the face. We throw the first punch and keep on punching.

"We make sure it's not the last punch and keep on punching. That's who we are."
 
You never know he could be a great hire or crash and burn. Muschamp was supposed to be a great DC for AUB and the media was buzzing over that hire. Muschamp's defensive at AUB was just not very good. Did he have the players for his system???? Only time will tell..... :)

I like it!

That mentality would have won a couple of games this year. That was Chavis big knock. He would go into that stupid prevent with a lead, thus leading to his "third-and-chavis" nickname.

The players will love it, and he will have the players to play that style.

We may have lucked into him with the way that the Jancek deal went down, but we were due.

Lol. For what it's worth, I think it's a good hire. Penn State had a good defense (but OSU put 38 on them and MSU put up 55; how did that happen?). They also had a fair amount of talent. Anyone ever hear of Carl Nassib?

What cracks me up is you SEC fans chatter on incessantly about how the B1G sucks, but you sure like hiring coaches out of such a bad conference. Why is that?

Big 10 does suck. Shoop and Franklin left the SEC for PSU and now Shoop is back in the SEC. :pop:
