Well, I pulled the sights off of my bow today. Couple of reasons, first, the plastic TruGlo sights were messing up where the pins go. Plastic just doesn't hold up to being tightened against metal for very long. Second, I was getting tired of having to move the pins all the time to get things dialed in constantly.
My first two compounds were shot instinctively and that's how I shot my recurve and longbow. Well, guess what. Within just a few shots I cut a 3", 4 arrow group dead center of the 6" bull on my target at 10 yards. I know, 10 yards isn't anything to brag about but I've not shot instinctively in years. I guess it's like riding a bicycle or something.
Back up to 20 yards and after a few shots to get my brain back in gear(remember, it's a hand/eye kind of deal) I hit the bull dead center 2 out of 4 shots and the flyers only missed by a few inches, not any worse then I did WITH sights.
It'll just take practice and I know I'll be back on target without the need for sights and if you think I'm kind of an "odd ball" for shooting a compound bow without sights, ol' Uncle Ted did it for years.
I'll keep using my release, love the clean release you get from it, much better then finger style but as for sights, I'd rather be free of em' and let my brain help me to make the shot rather then trust something like a pin.
Guess there's just some habits that are hard to break.
