Unfortunately it does happen. However, one of the first rules of hunter safety is making sure of your target. If you don't the difference in a hen and a gobbler, give up the sport. One has essentially a colorless head, and the other has a bright red, white, and blue head. Also gobblers are twice the size of hens.
This is exactly why fanning is so dangerous there are sadly hunters who just brush shoot at what they assume rather than confirming a target.
I hope you get hammered by the Al dnr, that'll teach you to be more careful. Hopefully saving hens and humans lives in the future.
