Shot size

i LOVE the 7's, started shooting them 2 years ago and am glad i gave them a try. All 4 i shot last year with them just went dead after the trigger was pulled. It was crazy the destruction they would do to the bird. granted all were under 35yds but still pretty impressive.

If using a 20 ga, even more reason to go with the #7s.

Federal makes the most awesome 20 ga #7 turkey shell on the market imo. It has 1 1/2 ounce of #7 shot (not sure what it is, but the pellets are much heavier than other non-lead offerings). Talking about the Federal Heavyweights. However, not advised to shoot them thru a ported choke. If your choke isn't ported, try them.

The 20 gauge Federal Heavyweight will work just fine through a ported choke. That stupid flite-control wad is more flexible in the 20 ga than a 12 ga. Lots of guys get great patterns shooting Indian Creek, Pure Gold, Hastings, and Remington extended super full turkey choke, which are all ported, shooting the Fed. Heavyweight loads.

chrmayo, I'd try the Fed. Heavyweight first due to it being more dense than anything else commercially available and if it won't pattern then try some Hevi-13 #7s. Either will have the energy to kill a bird 40+ yards if the pattern is there.

How long has the shot size been designated as 7's? I suppose I haven't been paying attention since I use 6's, but the shot size designation was 7 & 1/2's for years, not 7's.
