Figured it was time to get the turkey gun out and pattern it!
First shot
0314112138a.jpg

Pattern high and to the left. 161 hits in the 10 inch circle at 35 yards. Thought I might have jerked the trigger, didn't have my head down good. Thought the gun should do better than that.
Second shot
0314112146b.jpg

Made sure I squeezed the trigger and kept my head down.
Dead on! Maybe just a little to the left. 208 hits in the 10 inch circle at 35 yards.
Third shot
0314112139b.jpg

20 yards just to see what it was doing!

Mossberg 500
Tru-Glo Gobble Stopper
Winchester Supremes 3in 6s
Are these pretty good results for this gun and load???

That is really nice for a 3 inch lead shell. I would be interested to see how much your numbers drop off by shooting at 40 yards.

I may give it a try at 40 maybe even 45. Don't really plan to shoot that far though. Most of my hunting is in the woods where shots are 30 yards and under. I just want a good even pattern out to 40. Actually I kinda wish it was a little more open on the short yardage. Now I know why I missed a turkey at 5 yards two years ago. I was probably only throwing a tennis ball size group at him!

i shoot the same setup with #4's and the pattern stays pretty tight out to 50 yards. but i wouldnt shoot past 45 because of penetration.

#4 will do the job over 45 if you have a good enough pattern.

What do ya'll think is the maximum range of #6 lead shot?
I was thinking about trying some hevi mag blend this year but that stuff is expensive!
Are the winchester extended range shells hevier than lead?

Personally I would not shoot lead 6's at a turkey past 40 yards, really 35 for consistently killing turkeys humanely while at the same time reducing "cripples" to a minimum. Another thing to consider is the choke/shell combo you are using because that will dictate how many "6 shot pellets" will hit the neck/head area at once (how dense your pattern is at the point of impact). The more #6s hit the point of impact at the same time, the more "killing" power (ft-lbs of energy) you will have at once. The more, the better.

I agree, it is more costly than lead but it performs GREAT in my gun/choke combo. It was very lethal last year on turkeys for me. I highly recommend the Hevi-13 Magnum Blend to my friends that turkey hunt. (assuming their gun/choke combination shoots it well with a dense pattern at the distances they plan to shoot at)

Yes, at a density of 12 gram/cc, it is 10% heavier than lead (HTL). I have some friends that shoot these in #5s and they shoot some awesome patterns and they love how lethal they are on the turkeys.

i dont know if it would, even with the fairly tight pattern. when shooting at 50 the shot just barely sticks in 3/4 plywood. it looks like i glued the shot to the board lol. it might kill a turkey but the furthest ive ever shot a turkey is about 30 yards.

Trust me it will.i killed several over 50 yards with lead #6.Now i didn't think it was that far.i thought it was 40 yards.Im not saying people should take that long of a shot but it can do the job if your gun shoots good.

it can take them at over 50 yards but like i said in the other post its not a good idea to shoot that far.you run the risk of wounding a turkey. If i were you i would shoot the straight 7 rather than the blend. Now it seems that the hevi shot has chnged there buffer again and people are not happy with the new shells.Patterns are not what they were last year.Im thinking that might be why my pattern feel off.I want to try the win extend.they seem to be more consistant and they don't keep changing there material like the other company.

Thanks for the info guys! I don't have the cash to try hevi this year so I think I will stick with my current load. It is throwing a good pattern and like I said I usually don't have that many chances at long shots anyway. So if I may borrow some words from strut... I'm Good! :D
