who uses thier plain old shotgun and who has a specialized turkey gun? since im new to turkey hunting(2nd yr) im using my old browning 12ga that was handed down from my dad. it has sentimental value to me but ive been wondering if i really need to spend big $ on a turkey gun.

When I decided to acquire and designate a "True" turkey hunting gun several years ago, my confidence and my success took a turn for the better.

i had a "turkey" specific 870 and it was great but i bought a new shotgun last year (stoeger M2000) and it came with a TURKEY set up and a regular duck/dove set up. it was the best of both worlds!

I dont think a turkey specific gun is needed but if you have the money for one them by all means.

Run upon a good deal and bought an 3 1/2" 11-87. Just use it for turkey hunting. Would probably use it for duck hunting if I duck hunted.

No need to spend big money. A wally world 870 express 3" cost around 300 bucks and thats all you will ever need. With quality ammo and a good choke tube that gun will shoot with the best.
