Ok here's the scenario. I roosted several birds, mainly hens, there was one might have been a Tom but I couldn't tell. There were 4 toms roosted here 2 days ago. It's the last day of the last scheduled turkey hunt for the year on a WMA. There have been hunters in the area, not sure how many though. The birds I roosted are along the property line.. Some on my side and some on private land. There is a 70-80% chance of thunderstorms in the early morning. That means I get very wet and birds could possibly move on roost. I have not yet killed one on this WMA this year, and it's my last chance. I have the whole day off. Should I hunt?

Under normal circumstances, if I were in your shoes, I would probably wait out the storms and try it another time. But, when you consider that this is your last shot at these birds, I'd probably go all out and get wet. You should be able to get in close to the birds since you know where they are and the leaves will be wet, plus the wind and rain should give you some cover.

the only reason I am considering doing it is because its my last chance to turkey hunt this spot until next year. I like your thinking

With the wind rain and wet leaves you might be able to shoot one out of the tree when it starts breaking daylight. I'm kidding but I would go if it's just raining and not storming w lightning and high winds. I think tues is going to be like that here but I'm going because I'm only off work tues and wed.

We'll I ain't done yet. More storms coming in but I have stayed dry all day, just light rain when I got here in the morning. First the birds I had roosted were all hens, but I saw two strutters across the private field and they moved off out of sight. Around late morning to mid day, I had a group of two longbeards gobble from another private field. Set up close to the fence with field up in front of me and gobbles off to the right. Kind of fell asleep when the birds went quiet. Woke up after a little while and decided to check field in front of me. I came to the top of the ridge where I could actually see the field - there they were, 15 yards across the fence. One saw my movement and the other kept strutting as they walked away.

Moved around some before coming back to try and call one in again (they had since split up). Well I set up in the woods a greater distance from the boundary, facing paralell to the fence because i thought the birds had gone in the woods. Called some and sat. 2 minutes later Putt Putt off to my right, one had come straight from the field into the woods and saw my movement. He was about 35 yards out and when I saw his beard swaying is the only time I could have had a shot. I also could have shot one when I first walked up on them, but they were just across the boundary.

Now I've been sitting in another spot new to me and its been quiet. I could prob count the gobbles I've heard all day on one hand. I might go back to where the 2 gobblers were because I think I may have only got busted by one.

Oh yeah, around 8.30-9 am, I was driving down the dirt road to check another spot and about ran over a strutter and another fat longbeard with some hens. That's how it works.

I have about 4 hours left and maybe some rain coming, but it ain't over till the fat lady sings....
