When I have the extra spare money for membership, should I join? Who all here is a member? If I am already hooked on turkey hunting and haven't even shot my first I think it might be worthwhile. What do you all say...

money well wasted, if you want to pay some big wigs ridiculous salary to set up chapters to have dinners and banquets to raise money to send back to the corporation to give them a better life.i owe them nothing twra has done all the relocating stocking and preservation of the birds we hunt here in tn. JMHO

I just joined for the first time. Here is my reasoning:

I get a 25.00 bass pro gift card.
I get a year of the Turkey Call magazine.
I get into the convention for free.

Um catman, id rather put $30 towards some new camo or new call instead of a nwtf membership, unless your going to the convention, its not worth it, and you can probably get more tips off of this site than in their magazine

Thanks all, I guess I won't be joining at least for a while...Blount, you're right, I need to get me a long sleeved turkey shirt and pants, I'm tight on money and won't even have a vest...don't need one with all the pockets in cargo pants anyway...gonna go as simple as possible this year and still have enough gear to get a couple of birds. My gun isn't camo'ed either. I could pick up some of that camo gun tape or learn how to dismantle the gun and paint it camo, but for now it's just gonna be black...

All I need is half decent camo from head to toe, a few calls, my gun and a box of Winchester supreme turkey loads. And a chicken biscuit to get the morning started when I am out on opening day.

If you haven't bought your mask yet, id recommend the one built in on the hat, that has the half circle cut out by the bill so the mask doesn't cover your eyes, I have a hard time seeing through the mesh clearly, another tip, try to match your camo up with where you plan on hunting, I like my pants and boots to be realtree with a lot of brown and tan to match the leaves, you don't want to look like a blob of something in the woods lol, oh and I wouldn't worry bout your gun being black, my winchester 1300 turkey is solid black from barrel to butt, and they haven't seen it yet(well as far as I know)

The NWTF has done a thing or two in Tennessee that benefits anyone who hunts turkeys here.

NWTF helped purchase the Foothills WMA in Blount County, the Sundquist Unit of the North Cumberland WMA, and several other pieces of public land open to hunters.

NWTF provided all the transport boxes used to relocate wild turkeys during the restoration years. Bought rocket nets and other equipment.

NWTF provides money for habitat work on many pieces of public property across the state. Helps purchase equipment used on WMA's.

Holds many youth events.

Assists with special hunts for handicapped hunters.

Provides college scholarship money for high school students across the state.

Pays rewards for individuals reporting poachers.

And much, much more.

But not everyone wants to be a member. If you turkey hunt, thank the NWTF for part of your success.

Am I a member? Yeah, since 1981.

I also just got an offer through the mail for a bag of chufa for $63 through my membership. Online it is normally $117. I also was able to get corn seed last year through my local chapter at a very low price.

I agree, I have been a member for several years now and the NWTF has spent hundred of thousands from their superfunds in this state alone. I think it is a great organization with great values. Before each banquet we have a prayer, do the pledge of allegiance, and recognize the veterans.

Well as usual I am getting polar opposite responses.... Some day I will probably join but most likely not in time for this year's convention  not that I could afford to buy anything there after paying membership (or admittance) AND parking.

So have other groups, who have donated a lot more. They were a great group at one time. Donations to twra are more worthwhile.
