Only one tom gobbling this morning, several fields away. He gobbled for over an hour.
Relocated to that area and saw a single hen. She was just kind of milling around the edge of the field, never made a sound. The tom was still 100yds away in the woods on the other side of the field. He wouldn't get any closer, she wouldn't go in his direction.

On the way out saw another hen doing the same thing. Pecking a little, but mainly just walking around the field edge. No toms heard from that area this morning.

Help a newbie out:
What's up with the single hens? What are they doing?

Same thing here, had a Tom gobble right after sunrise, gave a few calls and he was making a beeline to me gobbling his fool head off but he hung up just out of range. After he left a single hen came into the food plot picked around for 30 min or so and left. Sat for a couple more hours and nothing.
Going back in a little while. Maybe they will cooperate more.

It's fairly likely that the single hens you see have a nest in the area and are laying; an egg a day until they have a full clutch and they go to setting/incubating. If that tom gobbled for an hour on his own and the hens basically ignored him (and he didn't have other hens with him) you are in VERY good shape.

That bird is vulnerable...go get'im.

sounds alot like my morning. didnt hear any gobbles just a lone hen. she came just over 10 yards from me pecking around and clucking a little. then that was it nothing else.

I just need to entice him to cross the road onto my property :(
All he has to do is just fly down tomorrow morning. I'll be waiting MUCH closer this time.

I also seen a single hen but she had a tom with her and after 30 min of calling to him he decided to go for a ride in my truck.
