Smart reflects on Sugar Bowl loss

Smart is spot on. Had Jones been QB all along or one of the other guys played that game, Bama wins by two TDs.

Same thing happened to the Vols in our last legitimate chance at a NC, in the 2001 SEC Champ game. We were #2 and one win away from the Rose Bowl with #1 Miami. We got a lead, and knocked Davey out of the game, then they brought in freshman Mauck, and Chavis had no idea how to stop him.

That was the beginning of Fulmer's demise.

Why bring that game up? I was there and it still kills me. We were gonna stay overnight and were so pissed we drove back when it was over. To make it worse we were sitting amongst a section of LSU fans. :livid:

It's not like Cardale ran all over Alabama. He had something like 46 yards rushing. Zeke had 235. With JT Barrett, his command of the offense, poise and touch, and dynamic running ability, those two first half red zone stops IMO would have been at least one TD with JT. Cardale can stretch the field better. But JT's no slouch.

Interesting bringing Herman to Tuscaloosa. Smart makes it clear this was no fluke. The Bama coaches knew they were in trouble early.

I wonder if this year's class of smart seniors at Bama are going to respect the opposing QB in the playoff/bowl game. First Trevor Knight then Cardale.
