Didn't want to derail Finalsteps thread on Russell's so figured I'd start a new one.

What kind of snakeboots you tromping around in these days? I've worn a pair of Rocky's + waterproof booties for 8 years or more but the sole finally blew out and separated from the upper. This spring will be the first year with a new pair of Chippewa boots. They are a little heavier than the old boots but fit really well for a non-custom boot.

I wear Rocky's. They were waterproof for about four hunts a couple years ago. I've put more waterproofer on them than should be needed, but they're dry now. In a few years I'll be getting some Russell's. I just can't swing it right now.

Do not waste your money on Russel boots. I have two pairs, one I grouse hunt in (high country hunter) that are great and a pair of snake boots which are horrible. They leak is the humidity is above 40%

Really? I'm glad you said something before I made the purchase. Granted I didn't plan on buying a pair anytime soon. I just want a good custom fit snake boot that's waterproof. That seems impossible to find.

I started using a pair of booties called SealSkinz a couple of years ago...they work. My old Rockys had been leaky for years but these fit the bill and let me get a few more miles out of them before they finally croaked.

I have Danner jackall 2's, (I think that is the name). They are very comfortable, light weight, and almost as easy as putting on tennis shoes. But they leaked after three or four hunts. I spray camp dry on them and it works.

I have had the cabelas and bass pro brands. Cabelas was a really good boot, dont remember what they are called. Hunted two seasons before I had any leaks. Very comfortable and light weight. Easy to put on, but takes a long time to tie them up .
Bass pro brand are comfortable, still water proof after four seasons. But they are heavy, hard to get on my feet, take forever to lace up, and so hard to get off that I sometimes get cramps in my calf muscle.

I have liked all three that I have. Want to try zippers one day, just scared that the zipper will tear up.

I've gladly worn Danner Pronghorn GTX Snake boots for over 12 years and I'm on my 2nd pair. I purchased a pair of Irish Setter Vaprtrek 18" Snake Boots last month because I found them on sale at 35% off of retail price and couldn't pass them up. They are lightweight and comfortable but I've only worn them around the house. Looking forward to putting them on the ground. And if you happen to wear a size 10.5 or 11.5 Midway USA has these on sale for $148.

I almost went for the Vaprtrek too also but needed something without laces as I wear them when doing tractor work. More than once I had the laces of my old pair somehow get caught on the pedals such that I had to stop and take it our of gear to get untangled. I decided if anything ever happened that I had to get off that thing in a hurry it could get ugly real quick.

Nice looking boots though.

I always tuck my laces down inside my snake boots once I tie them. That way they are not exposed to tractor pedals and the like.

Same here but somehow they got out...probably getting up and down of the tractor multiple times and not paying attention that they worked out. Guarantee I noticed when my leg was caught though. Definitely got my attention.
