Even though there are rattlers and copperheads where I hunt in va and Tenn I've never wore snakes boots. I've only seen 2 rattlers in 27 years. With my trip to bama tho I got to thinking that I may want to down there so I'm trying to find the lightest possible ones out there. I actually prefer non waterproof but either will do. I normally wear normal hiking shoes due to the amount of ground we cover so I know Jack squat about snake boots. Never seen any locally so will probably have to order online

Go to Academy Sports and buy a pair of chaps for about $30-40 and keep wearing your hiking boots. I normally wear my Muck Fieldblazers but last year bought the snake chaps to try during deer season when it was still warm. I could take them off easily when in the tree and they're pretty comfortable.

I've worn them all and all were awful except the Danner Pronghorn, those were okay.

I won't go in the woods without them no matter where I hunt. There's more nasties around then most realize

The only ones I've had were the Red Head snake boots with the side zipper. Easy on and off, comfortable, and affordable. I hunt too many swampy areas and the woods in the Fall are full of copperheads.

DO NOT BUY IRISH SETTERS! I have never had such bad luck with boots as the Irish setters I bought. I bought 3 different pairs at one time and they all fell apart. I bought another pair and they fell apart. I bought a pair for my wife at the same time she wore them 3 times before the sole separated

the one and only "ImThere"

Got me a pair of chaps. Good friend of mine is a inspector on the strip mines ,which is full of rattlers, has a pair and said I could take his. Thanks for the help fellows

I meant gaitors not full length chaps. They're noisy and hotter than Hades.

Check out Chippewa.

I've worn out more snakeboots than I care to recall: soles, seams, waterproofness, lowers and laces. Got a pair of Chippewa and mink oiled the heck out of them new right out of the box. So far the footsies stay dry, they don't bind, no blisters, and not too bad getting on and off. Decent traction without lugging mud and pine needles...breathe at 1:30 in the afternoon but don't freeze my toes off at daybreak after a mile long trek through cold dew or an early season frost.

With all the watery bottomground my farm has more cottonmouths than I care to worry about. After about mid March-ish I scarecely step off the porch without snake boots. Ive stumbled across more than a few that would flat ruin the day if they had a notion to strike...and I didn't see them before they saw me. They just didn't feel like making the effort at that moment (thankfully).

Well crap [emoji2]

Edit: just talked to him and he said they are gaitors and not chaps. Did recommend wearing a leather boot tho which I have plenty of

Man I have tried lots and I mean lots of pairs. Give most of them away. Cabelas slip on. No zipper to screw up. Extremely light. Waterproof. Comfortable from day one. Made just like slip on work boots. I wouldn't stear u wrong on boots. It's a pet peave of mine.

Under Armour just came out with a pair. Not sure how well they will hold up. Danner also released the Jackal II in original bottomland. Talk about sex appeal...

And I believe those Jackal II Bottomlands are a Cabelas exclusive.

I was at my buddies house last night and tried on his gaitors. Going to take them and another friend has some snake boots he bought new but never used I can take. I talked to the Alabama state biologist day before yesterday and got some info. He highly recommended snake boots. I CAN'T STAND A SNAKE! Hoping the weather will get better. Long range forecast temps are around 60 but rain 5 out of the first 10 days.

I agree

Lmao its a good thing you don't insist that they be waterproof because none of them will be after 3 months. Ive tried several different brands and Danner pronghorns are the most comfortable Ive found. Be warned though, they are going to leak, its not a matter of if, but WHEN.

Best investment I ever bought was a pair of Veneom boots from Lacrosse. Combo lace and zipper,. Easy on and easy off. I also have a pair of pull on from .cabelas. Not as comfortable for all day hikes and much hotter. Both have THIER place.
