been chasing this dang bird that is close to my house in a small area of public land. The WMA part is boat access only but i have access to some private land that boarders it so i just use that to get into the public part.

there are 2 birds in there pretty routine but they go from there to some private areas i don't have access to early in the morning. I have been close a few times with the dang bird but he has always had hens and didn't want to get into range. I have kept it low impact in the area and called very little to try and keep the pressure off and just wait for my chance.

Well today was the chance. Caught him alone and actually gobbling great. He hit the ground, i called 2x and he was on the way. Cut across a field and angled in right in front of me at 25 yds. I let the 20 gauge go and MISSED! I have no idea how i missed but he took off and then flew off!

I can only think i rushed the shot some and tried to look to see if i hit him before I really pulled the trigger. I seriously have been beating myself up all day over it and i could punch myself in the dang face over it.

I know it happens and its not the first miss of my life but man I have really worked this little area perfect and finally got the perfect change and blew it. Oh well will give it a week or so and hit him back with the 12 gauge this time. He won't be so lucky when the FF3 dot on his neck!

Dang man, hate that for you.... but hang in there.... you have been in them so far.... We have yet to pull the trigger... Hope to change that by the weekend though!!

Sorry to hear that, sounds like my entire last year though
Keep after them, you and Setterman prob have the lead on kills so far...

Nothing worse then the day after a miss, I know last week sucked when I whiffed. Chances are he will forget and be ready to die again in a day or so

I missed one last Thursday after killing 3 in 5 days. I haven't seen a gobbler since. It is like have a turkey jinx after the miss!
I hate it.
