These MS birds are getting frustrating on my lease....

Hunted Mon afternoon for 3h posted up in a likely spot, calling periodically... not a peep.

Hunted yest AM and this AM from 6:15 till 7:45, not a single gobble.

I've seen fairly fresh gobbler tracks, population is low where I'm at, but I KNOW there are a couple more out there for the taking. But they have to give away their position first. I'm not patient enough to just sit in a likely spot for hours without seeing or hearing one.

I think there's been 4 other hunting, looks like around 16 or 17 hunt trips in all at the lease, no one else has killed yet.

Maybe tomorrow AM... going with a friend to a 700ac property on the Pearl River that has several birds.

GL to those of you taking kids in the AM! I hope to have my son with me tomorrow down here.

Agreed...nothing worse than deer hunting for turkeys.

Sounds like you do not have the patience for turkey hunting. It is a quest with more downs than up. Hunting 1.5 hours two days is barely getting started.

Go ahead mega, this ought to be good :D !

Fun hunt today, but no kill. No gobbles off the roost, picked a spot and set up anyways. Had 3 jakes sneak in about 730, one sorta wanted to half strut. They wandered off and I called them back in, twice actually. The third time they wandered off, I yelped then jake yelped. That sent them into a frenzy! All three started gobbling and the lead jake went into full strut spitting and drumming at 15 yards. Wish my son would have been able to wake up, was a slam dunk. I let them finally wander off and repositioned 3 more times over the next 4 hours and 3 miles. Not another bird heard. Very few tracks, which was surprising, as this property usually has several birds on it.

Gonna hit the far side if the lease tomorrow before church. 12 hens were using it daily during deer season, if they're still there, there should be a couple of Tom's with them now.

Rode in 2.5 miles, worked around another half mile trying to locate a bird on the roost without success. Picked a likely spot and set up. After 15 minutes, a hen answered behind me in the tree. Spun around and found her 150 yds away skylit about 100 ft up a tall pine. We had a bit of a conversation that I fully expected a gobbler to respond to, but nothing. At flydown time, she pitched out of her roost and into a tree 40 yds from me. I kept quiet and she finally hit the ground 10 yds away. I was hoping the rest of the flock would follow, but she ended up being a loner.

These are some wary birds around here, both girls I've called in so far came in limb hopping to me.

I'm with you Mega. I hunted 6 days in MS. Never saw a bird or heard a gobble. Very little sign. We have access to 1500 of the prettiest acres you've ever seen, but just not many birds. My cousin had a bird gobble twice yesterday. Watched him cross a bottom at 80 yards strutting for 5 hens. That was the highlight of our 6 days and I missed that. I'm ready for Saturday morning in TN.
