I had that feeling today! I got to the stand around 6:30 and rattled since there's a good bedding area about 400 yards away. About 45 minutes later, I was thinking it would be nice if a good buck walked out in the open and gave me a good look at him. I looked up and there he was walking out. I checked him with my 10x binos and decided I had to kill that buck. I mouth grunted and he finally stopped and I shot. He whirled and ran back toward the woods.
That's when all the second guessing started. How good was he or did I just get excited and shoot? Then I wondered about the shot. It was 198 yds. So I waited about 45 minutes and got down. After I turned the corner I saw him piled up. He never got out of the field. It was a heart shot. He made it 50 yds. When I walked up and finally got a look at his rack, I was very pleased. He was as good as I thought. No monster but a good 3.5 year old buck. The Lord blessed me today!
