My son has hunted hard all weekend trying to kill this deer. He had him at 20 yds on Friday evening and spooked him before he could shoot. He saw him again on Saturday evening and twice this morning but not within bow range.
It came together this afternoon. This buck and two buddies stepped in the field about 7:20 at around a 100 yds. I was at church finishing up a fellowship dinner. He had been texting me updates on deer he had seen but hadn't heard from him in a bit. I text him to see if there were any deer in the field and got no response. I then got a trail cam ding with a picture of the bucks. After a couple of more pics, my phone started ringing as he was calling and said he'd shot the buck at around 25 yds. He thought he made a good shot and thought it started wobbling as it exited the field. I told him I would leave and run home to change and grab some lights. Church is only about 5 mins from where he was at. I told him to get down and walk straight to where he exited the field, look for blood, and stand there waiting for me to come. When I got there, there was no trailing needed. He was standing beside the deer. It went around a cedar tree and fell right after it went out of his sight. It's a main frame 8 with split 2s and a sticker off the base. It's his biggest archery buck and first velvet.
Here's a funny…..he text me at 6 and said I'm out of water. He thought he had brought more. He said you think it will spook the deer if I brought him some water as I could drive right to the stand. I told him to tough it out, lol. He text back in a few saying he had to have some water so I jumped in the truck and made a "stand dash" delivery.
