Here is a Sony W290 I just finished up for a lady in Australia. It is in a Pelican 1040 case with 3d camo. Used Gary's SS board and reprogrammed the chip to modify the timing. Thanks Joe (12Ringer) for the timing tips. Works great. A tad bit faster than a P41. HPWA Fresnel, Pipe Thru for the Python Cable, 3 C cells for camera's external power. This is a awesome little unit. I will be getting rid of all my P41's and P32's and switching all my personal builds to the W290. Truly Awesome !!!

Very cool build.

I love all the build experimentation FIREMANJIM. You're definitely pushing the homebrew envelope.

Good stuff Jim as always. Please go into more detail about the statement above that I highlighted in bold. Reason I ask is I love my P41s so I want to know why you are so adamant about getting away from them. Please explain why the W290 is that much better or is it they are that more readily available? How long do you expect the three "C" external batteries to last in winter temps of 30 for a low and 50 for a high? Thanks in advance Jim.

First off it is faster than a P41. For years the P41 was the fastest in the homebrews with a trigger of 1.56 seconds. The W290 is faster. 1.42 second trigger. Flash is the same as a P41. The w290 is a 12mp camera. You can zoom in on the critters with unbeliveable clarity!!!! The 3 C cells should be good for 6000 pics in 30 deg weather with no problems at all. They are much more readily available!! The P41 is a 7 year old unit now. Getting hard to find good ones anymore and parts to fix the old ones. The W290 is not a cheap unit my no means. Cameras alone going for about $80. I can build anyone a unit like this one for $300 TYD with my forever warranty !!!!

I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to the specs on cameras but what is the trigger speed on a Moultrie I 90? I have 2 Moultries that for $180 have been the best camera for the money I have purchased. I really liked Leaf Rivers for 3 years and then all 3 of those crapped out and sending them off for repair didn't help any.

My reasoning for asking is I'd be happy to spend $300 on a "good" camera with low maintenance, fast trigger speed and as economical as possible to run. 3 batteries is a heck of a lot less than what most other cameras require.

The problem with commercial cameras there is simply too many things that can go wrong. This build you see here has a small control board and a Sony camera. Thats all that can go wrong here. The Sony camera has proven itself and should take millions of pics before being "worn out". And if something does go wrong you have my cell phone number to call me directly for a repair. I warranty my stuff forever!!! PERIOD!!! In the first year if something goes bad I fix it 100% FREE!!!! After the first year and from then on if something goes wrong I give you the labor free, you pay for the replacement parts. So if you owned this cam for 10 years and the board goes out the repair will cost about $55 dollars for a board replacement.
OK...where do I start on trigger times??? The commercial cameras have about a .75 second trigger. They have to have this to capture the picture because there fresnel is a .9 angle fresnel. What this means is at 40 yards out the camera's detection zone is about 20 feet wide. They have to be super fast to get the animal in the picture. I use a High Performance Wide Angle Fresnnel. It is domed and sticks out from the face of the camera. What this means is at the same 40 feet distance out from the camera my detection zone is about 65 feet wide. Most of my units will detect the animal and get 3 to 4 pictures of it as it is walking thru the detection zone. Hope this makes sense and you guys understand what I am saying. Thanks...Jim

Basically just tell me a little info on how you use your trailcams. Use them on trails, foodplots, mineral licks, or all the above?? How often you check your cameras??? Is theft in your area a issue?? Just basic info. My basic whiteflash camera with external power starts at $225 TYD. I can do anything really. IR, IR with a slave flash, Video, IR video, Foodplot cameras with a slave.
