Does, or has, anyone hunt/hunted up in southern west virginia at all? I've always thought about trying it out but not sure how it is up there vs. here. I've been looking into hunting out of state for next season. just trying to get some insights.

4 counties on southern most tip is bow only from my understanding. Some studs all over the state though. Good luck
I believe you're right about that, listened to a podcast on lunch that mentioned those 4 counties. thank you.
I keep threatening to go up there. Very rough and rugged terrain but there are some giants roaming in those hills, especially in those 4 archery only counties.
It can't be much different than hunting North Cumberland i would imagine, it's really not that far for a 3 or 4 day weekend hunt

I keep thinking about it myself. I tend to go turkey hunting somewhere first to scope it out. I want to go to some of the strip mine land.

I work with a few guys that are from there and they go hunt a week each year. The terrain is the exact same as North Cumberland. Somehow there are just so many more deer. The pics they send me are incredible. They kill some monsters up there. That's in the bow only counties. I can't remember which one.
Mingo, Logan, McDowell & Wyoming counties are bow only. It's been 15+ years since I hunted it. If you looking for great hunting, you should give it a try. Check out the guys from guys from Untamed. The do a lot of hunting in the strip mines of southern WV.
