i have a doinker on my mathews, and after reading some articles, it seems that all the rage is now to go longer, 8-12 inches. Is it common for someone to hunt with a longer stabilizer? Sure I want better accuracy, but it seems like it would be more of a hassle than a improvement, anyone use the longer ones??

I use a 9" stabilizer for hunting, but used a 12" at times in the past. A short stabilizer doesn't really do a whole lot to stabilize the bow, it acts more as a vibration dampener. A longer stabilizer will usually help tighten up your groups.

The stabilizer on the bow in this picture is a 12" AEP :D

does it seem to snag alot on the walk in?or in the treestand? ive got my eye on a octane i think is 10, so i may give it a whirl

Yeah right Rich :D

Switchbacker - it doesn't snag. I carry the bow by the string with the riser hanging straight down. My stabilizer now is a doinker a bomb 2" insert with a sims limbsaver screwed into it. It's 9-10" and kind of flimsy, but seems to be a good combo of stabilizer and dampener.

I like heavier longer stabilizers...if not they don't stabilize. I'd rather not have one that a little bitty sims. I actually used mine to push down a small twig this year in order to kill a doe.
