I guess I will start all over. my weight loss isn't working. I haven't shot in a couple of weeks with any consistency. got sick last week and had to cancel my camping trip to an archery shoot. work is going to mess up my vacation time during turkey season. there is a couple of 3D shoots in March I am going to try to make. if I can make those I think I will be all right. :)

Sounds like you stay busy, I havent shot in weeks, but did stop at my not exactly local archery shop & picked up a right wing helical jig for my fletcher, that might count for something.

Think'n about trying to foot some carbons, have several old aluminium arrows I cant shoot & dont believe in throw'n anything away, so if they fit I should have a decent supply of shafts to use for strengthening up some carbons.

....and my diet (if you want to call it that) stinks also.

I've been thinking about footing some carbon also. IF I can find a snug aluminum shaft. I think I may need some 2114s or 2117s

I'll check my stash, might have some, little of everything in there.

Whats the measurements of your carbons ?

I don't know. I have a good supply of different aluminum shafts around the house. my wife uses the bent ones for flower bed stakes. :D I had read somewhere that the 2114 or 17s work well with the 500 spine carbons. I was going to get in my workshop one rainy weekend and experiment with what I have on hand.

yesterday about an hour before supper I got out and shot one of my longbows that I have been trying to tune. I can't seem to get the twang out of the string. it has a fast flight string on it. thinking of making a b50 string. I got frustrated and put it up, then grabbed my GO-TO bow to shoot.
I'm one of these guys that can't seem to leave well enough alone. I messed around with my bow a few months back and got it out of tune as far as the dull string thud it had. I don't know why I did but I increased my brace height. I had it set at 8". luckily for me, when I tuned it when I first got it, I wrote on the lower limb with a sharpie the BH I had settled in at. 7-1/2". I dropped it back to that and got my dull thud back.

now if I could just figure this other bow out.......

I still can get the hang of my latest grizzly, stuck one in the wood frame around my target & was afraid it would break the arrow try'n to wiggle it out, finally just unscrewed it & left the field point in the wood.

Had thoughts on get'n my old 50# grizz one out just to compare groups,or maybe swap strings & see what that done, the new one has a custom string, think'n it may be B50.

One is a 50# DW & the other is 55# DW, length is the same but havent measured the brace height, just took for granted it would be the same or at least close.

But was think'n about you mentioning adjusting the BH on your bow, how are yo do'n this ??

by twisting/untwisting the string. twist tighter to increase, untwist to decrease. this does several things. it affects arrow flight as well as changing the nock set will. another it can make the bow quieter or louder, change hand shock and string vibration after the shot. sometimes all it takes is 1 twist. jit changes arm/wrist slap too.
if you have to twist so much that the string will knot up when you take the tension off, you should try a shorter string. you should have to twist that much with a string of the proper length.

forgot to add, the quietest bow I ever shot was a recurve with NO STRING SILENCERS. the string was twisted to the perfect brace height. not hand shock, no noise, no 'piano string' vibrations. I've tried to duplicate that several times with my bows and haven't done it yet.

I was pondering on that after I posted up, figured the only way to "adjust" the brace hight was to twist or replace the string, never attempted it but might this weekend just to see what happens, cant hurt anything.
