Took my son Landen and daughter DeLaina with me hunting this morning. We got rained out after hunting for about an hour. We left and decided to go back after the rain went through. Went back around 11:45. As soon as we started walking away from the CRV heard a crow drew out a shock gobble. We boot, scoot, and boogied down to our spot. We had several gobblers responding to my calls. After about 30 minutes had one sneak up right in our laps. It busted us as soon as his little noggin peaked over the edge where the steep ridge turns into a small flat. We still had several gobbles coming from the next ridge over. I've called birds off that ridge MANY times over to me so I was feeling pretty good. I could tell the gobbles were coming from right down in the creek and were heading our way. I finally quit calling and they quit gobbling but I figured they were sneaking up the ridge. After about 15-20 minutes my son and I heard some leaves rustling at the same time - and we both said "Did you hear that - turkeys". We eased our guns into position. The first one popped his head up at about the same place the one had that had busted us earlier. He eased up the hill and broke into strut. I told Landen to shoot him when you can and about that time - BOOOOOOOOM == flopping bird. I didn't actually know there was a second bird until he shot and it started flying off. It banked real hard and headed back toward the flopping bird. I told Landen and DeLaina to sit still - I'm killing that second one. He ran over to flog that bird and didn't get very long to do so. As soon as he circled into an opening - BOOOOOOOOOM == back flipping no flinching dead bird #2. Needless to say we were all pumped up.

Landen's "strutting" bird: 25 pounds, 3/4" spurs, 10 1/2" beard

My bird: 20 pounds, 1" hooked spurs, 11" beard
