anybody got anyexperience with them ? good, bad, junk?
thought bout one in .223 to play with keep in the truck

I have a Stevens in .223. Very accurate gun...I feel like it was the best $260 I've spent on a gun thus far. If you can find the Winchester White Box 45 gr JHPs, this gun will love 'em if it is anything like mine. If I had any complaints, they would be:

1) The flashing on the plastic stock is sharp and needs to be trimmed down.
2) It's somewhat picky about feeding...I'm still working this out.

As for reloading, I have found that mine likes:

- Winchester brass
- Hornady 55gr VMAX
- 26.4 gr Varget
- CCI 400

This load is chrono'ed right around 3067fps and will group around 3/4" @ 100 yds.

The Old Stevens were around before Savage was ever dreamed up. I have a Stevens 44 1/2 in 222 cal ( rebored) , that is my alltime favorite gun. As far as value , I would say in the 1500 to 1800 range.
