Went the last 2 mornings and haven't heard a gobble and I know there are gobblers in the area. I killed a 3 year old about a week into season and had tons in range 2 more times but no shot opportunities the next week but I still haven't heard a gobble after flydown yet and not even on the roost this weekend but can see them later in the day out in the fields. I did see a strutter with 3 hens about 8am today and with the lay of the land I went around and got within 60yds of them on the other side of the hill. I new they would come back over soon cause there are houses and a highway the other way. I called softly but nothing. 30 mins later I catch movement out of the corner of my eye and here they come 10 yds away feeding back towards the woods but they came the wrong way and were at my 5 o'clock.I thought about trying to swing around and get a shot off but by the time I seen them till they went around the corner of the fence row was prob 30 seconds so I let him go to tangle with another day real soon. He was out of strut when they came back by me but he was still spitting and drumming while he fed behind the hens. Hopefully they will crank up around here soon.

Same thing this weekend in west Tn gobbled pretty good on roost then not a word after fly down! I think there still following and staying with the hens all day they don't have a reason to gobble I bet next weekend will be a different story!

Sounds like normal turkeys with hens behavior to me. You've got wide open woods and a bright full moon, combine that with a nice east wind this past weekend and it is an easy recipe for silence.

The open woods allow the birds to see all of their hens, the full moon lights up the woods so they can see them even easier, and the east wind is a sho nuff gobble killer.

I'm not complaining but it's just not as fun as when they are tearing the woods down. I got number 2 today ( see my mr silence is dead thread) and got to feel the rush even tho they weren't wanting to talk. setterman I have never heard about the east wind shutting them down. How does that work?
