Was gone from Monday thru Saturday afternoon for family vacation, and was hopeful things had changed in a week. Nope. Not even a roost gobble yesterday or today. Looks like for sure I won't kill a single bird this year, which will be the second time since I started hunting turkeys in the early 90's. Kinda eerie how quickly it went from 15-20 toms to hunt to basically 0 in one year. Hoping the few hens I've seen are successful this year.

Dang, that sucks. I was hoping it would pick up for you

Hunted 12 times with kids from church/landowners, who killed a Jake and one tom. Hunted probably 15 times by myself (mostly just an hour before work), and only worked one bird who stayed on another property. Every other day since mid March I've listened for roosted birds, heard roost gobbling maybe 10 times, and birds on the ground maybe 5. Wouldn't have been out of the ordinary to hear that much in one day in the past 5 years.

So, you have heard roost gobbling 10 out of 15 trips. That's not a bad average in my opinion. The problem might be that you are messing with older birds that generally don't gobble a whole lot after fly down. I've been in the same situation except I've heard less roost gobbling however I know the birds are there so I still hang around and hunt them.

No, sorry for poor wording I guess. I have heard roost gobbling maybe 10 times since mid March. On days I'm not hunting, I always go listen for roost gobbling.

like I said before, time to find new ground. I know it's frustrating not getting to hunt the farms you love, but it's ok to move on. I'm already lining up backup spots in counties with high harvest numbers for next year in case the land I grew up on doesn't have the birds next year. I'll miss stomping on the farms I've hunted for 30 years, but I'll miss the birds even more. If you keep pushing your current situation, all it's going to do is make you more frustrated. That's just what turkey hunters have to do in this time.. adapt and overcome... Maybe one day the birds will make a comeback, but right now, I'd be looking into Greene, Dickson, and Maury counties for the near future. You've got about 3 or 4 years to hunt those counties before the rest of the state exterminates their birds before you.

They have been slaughtering them in Maury county this year. I anticipate a decrease in numbers next year. I have talked to several people from other counties that have started hunting here.

it gets more and more overran with out of town hunters and out of state hunters every year. I would bet there are more hunters hunting in Maury county than any other county in Tn.

You are exactly right. One farm I hunt used to have very little pressure on neighboring properties and it was a great spot. The last two seasons have been completely different. The landowner on the other property let some folks from another county hunt and they have killed every bird they can and you hardly ever see the same people. It's like let's phone a friend and come on out and hunt. Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse.
