Hey Stoner,

Looking to be a great opening weekend down here in FL. Temps in the mid 50's with a high of 70 for central FL. Have the birds been making noise over your way? I am battling the crowds for opening weekend on the Upper St. Johns since I can't stand it any longer. Should be a real cluster of people but just want to at least hear some birds making noise! Good luck if you are going this weekend!!!

Thanks for the note. I will miss opening morning this year, I have to go to a family reunion up in the Panhandle. I will be out there Sunday for sure. The birds are gobbling and are loud. I been seeing flocks most morning out in the pastures on the way to work. I am getting excited and ready to start hitting it every morning before work. Tonight I was turning a few calls on the lathe, I will have some pretty new calls and strikers this year to start the season. I make alot of calls and give most of them away, thought I would make a few for myself to add to the collection. Are you hunting public land over by the St. John's?

I am going to try a new area of the St Johns this year. Straight out of Melbourne on 192 I have hunted that area of St Johns pretty hard and it is full of people and birds are scattered. This year I learned of a new area which I am guilty of not yet scouting but that is much further north up the St Johns and has some great oak hammocks and some cypress mix so I am going there this weekend. I also found the Santa Fe Swamp WEA just south of Starke and it is a WMA that is archery/muzzleloader only and it has some great looking potential so I am going to try my hand up there a bit too. I am a gluten for punishment hunting these management areas! Good luck to you this weekend.
