Any updates on the field nest you found ?

Not a good ending. The last time I saw it there were 6 eggs. I returned a week later to find a completely empty nest. No sign of eggs or egg shells which is kind of interesting. Most nest raiders eat the eggs on sight to my knowledge. It's almost as if the eggs were removed or carried away.

Sounds like a snake may be your culprit.

Foxes will carry them off and not eat on site.

Interesting. We don't have many foxes due to our coyote population. We definitely have plenty of black rat snakes, though.

I was hoping it would end well, maybe she will take up better nesting for a second round

I saw a single hen with 3 gobblers not far from where the nest was. I wondered if she was filling her tank up for round 2.

It's possible she already found a new nesting site. She hadn't laid a full clutch when it was raided.
