Any of you guys have a bird/s that are vocal but won't come to a call and always head away to a favorite strutting ground? I'm thinking each bird has his own favorite area so you almost have to follow him there to determine exactly where it is.

boy that would make life so easy...

but for some reason, any of my gobblers seem to have at least 3 favorite strutting grounds, and it seems totally random which one they head to each day... At least I have a 1 out of 3 chance :)

I think the boss birds have their preferred strutting ground and it's usually in a spot where they will see you before you can get close enough to shoot them. If all else fails, they rely on their hens to spot you and sound the "go the other way" signal.

Dad always said a bird would sleep high Im a tree but close to the round. His riddle! That left me finding the tallest trees where the roosting limbs were closest to the ground. I hope this makes sense? Think of a a big tall tree off in a holler where its roosting limbs are close to the ground(another point or high spot) In the terrain where the tom could easily set down. This is a great place to set up!

yeah even the boss tom's skinny bearded lookout hen can't pick out someone creepin thru the hedges shooting all of the airspace around the gobblers head 3 times, lol

I've always thought they like hill sides where they can take off from uphill from the tree and have a shorter distance to reach the higher branches. Of course turkeys are unpredictable but I've seen them do stuff like this once or twice. They don't seem to like flying very much

Yep, had a bird I chased for few years that had his strut zone on a old log road halfway down a steep ridge. I never got him, and if he is still alive he don't strut there anymore. Tried him for 2 years there. Very smart
