Awesome morning in the woods today. When we arrived at 5:45 this morning the birds were already gobbling.
We set up the blind and got the decoys out and I shot my bird at 6:50, came staight in stutting and drummng but never gobbled, he stayed in the middle of the decoys for over 20 minutes and tried to breed the decoy twice, finally cleared. First bird down. We had encounters with two groups of jakes, 10 total and seen 6 more gobblers within 100 yards but they were henned up. Decided to slip through woods to other side of property around 9:00 am, walking an old logging road as i stopped to look around and call, I see two fans in the road about 60 yards ahead. We immeidately set down, place the decoy in the logging road, i set back about 15 yards behind my wife and start calling softly and racking leaves. The birds immeidately go into full strut, spitting and drumming, never gobble but slowly make their way towards us, my wife drops her bird at about 35 yards in the road.
Two birds down by 9:30, great morning to be in the woods, we were blessed today. Beautiful day.
