Sunshine pumper

Still a big loss, but the Oline as an entire unit should improve returning all them guys. And with freshman like Jack Jones and Richmond.

And having Dobbs who can make plays with his legs start the season, instead of A statue who was SCREWED if someone got past the Line should help also.

Injuries happen wish they didn't :(

Looked up the definition of a Sunshine Pumper: The sunshine pumper sees that their team and coaches are playing hard equating to good, when in fact the players are not performing adequately and the coaches have failed to properly recruit/train/coach the team

I think "young" is not necessarily the right word. Should it be line is hardest place to start for someone with no EXPERIENCE. I know young and experience are often intertwined but I would rather have a true sophomore that started all of his freshman year than a true senior with 0 starts. Make sense?

Next year and the year after, we'll find out how good of a coach Butch Jones is, compared to his obvious strength as a recruiter. I heard that Dooley went two straight years without a single O line recruit. That blows me away.

Next year should be better, but I feel sorry for Vols fans. With all the hype, a good bit manufactured by Butch (but now he's trying to tamper down the hyped up high expectations), I would not want my team's O line depth to be freshmen. It won't matter how talented Dobbs, Hurd, and Kamara are when they are being hit 2-3 yards behind the line of scrimmage. FWIW, I think the future is bright for Vols football, but I think they take a small step backwards this year. In conferences like the $EC and B1G, games are won in the trenches.

You saying you think they won't even make a bowl?

Not necessarily. I think a Seven win season would be a "small step backwards" given all the hype, predictions and expectations.

By comparison, Urban Meyer puts a black stripe on each freshman's helmet. The stripe isn't removed until their practice performance merits it and until the stripe is removed, the frosh is not an official member of the team. The last I checked only 2 of the 15 freshmen had lost their black stripes, one being Isaiah Prince a stud O lineman. He'll still play sparingly this year as there is a lot to learn before he's a Slob. I feel sorry for that freshman Vol O lineman. He has no clue yet what it means to be an O lineman in the SEC. Wait until he's banged up and going against some senior D tackle from Bama or Arkansas (or Oklahoma).

I think Butch has only removed 2 or 3 so far which is about yhe same as Meyer, the difference is Ohio plays much easier schedule. If they were in the sec they would deffinatley not be ranked 1

Aw shucks. You mean January 1, 2015 was just a dream? I'm embarrassed. Why didn't somebody tell me?!?!

Was I also dreaming there's a CFP now? You mean the $EC championship determines the national champion? I've been wrong all this time. I better lay off the bottle. Thanks for correcting me.

What are Ohio St. 5 toughest games? Honestly I don't know. Sec has something like 8-10 teams in top 25. When you play tough teams all year a lot of injuries occur.

Pre-season top 25 is meaningless, including Ohio State at #1. No games have been played. Until games are actually played, there are teams in those "top 25s" that won't be ranked come end of the year and teams not in the pre-season top 25s that will be ranked by the end of the year. I don't disagree that the $EC West is tough, but same can't be said for the $EC East. B1G East is not far behind the $EC West. The best team OSU will play this year will be Michigan State and Michigan State would win the $EC West and wouldn't have two losses. Plus, that OSU/MSU game will be played on $EC chicken$#@* Saturday when all the $EC teams will be playing another FCS team prior to their end of regular season rivalry game. By the way, B1G schools can't play FCS teams. Urban Meyer coming to OSU has brought an $EC mindset in terms of how recruiting is done and recruiting for speed. The gap has narrowed. Last year showed that. $EC fans need to expand their horizons and get outside the groupthink and realize there is a lot of good football being played in areas north of the Ohio River and west of the Mississippi. It used to be $EC fans would point to the strength of schedule as the reason $EC teams were winning national championships, but in reality there were only three teams doing that - Alabama, Florida, and LSU in the BCS era. Now, given the recent $EC bowl records and absence of said national titles, $EC fans are pointing to the alleged strength of schedule as the reason they aren't winning the big bowl games and national titles. I also think it is telling how much success a perennial Big 12 doormat in Missouri (who lost to Indiana at home last year!) and perennial Big 12 also-ran in Texas A&M have had in the $EC.

I am honest and I know that based on history, including Ohio State history and Urban Meyer coach at Florida history, it is more likely than not that Ohio State does not repeat. I still like our chances and am hoping for a rematch with the $EC champion, but I don't think a two loss $EC is getting into the CFP (and doesn't deserve to be in).

I agree that Ohio St. has raised the level, all of these conference powershifts take cycles. SEC will probably be on top the most, who moves up north to retire?

No one in his or her right mind. :D

The decades long decline of the industrial Midwest really hurt B1G football. Huge demographic shifts mostly to the South and West. My small home town had a population of 15,000 in 1980 and is now under 10,000 (and roughly 50% of the residents are 65 and older). My high school graduating class was 300, and now just 150. There still is really good high school football (the NFL Hall of Fame Game is played in a high school football stadium), but not the depth and breadth of top athletes as before 1980 in the Midwest. Meyer has shown a B1G school can recruit Florida, the South, and Texas and get some of those kids to come north.
