I broke my leg and tore all the tendons and ligaments in my ankle turkey hunting last yr. It will be a yr tomorrow and three surgeries later including one 4 wks ago. This should be the last one and seems to be getting better. I missed juvenile and really haven't tried much the last two weeks.
This morning I got on some birds blowing the treetops out. It took me a few minutes to get circled above them and were on the ground once I got set up. They hushed when they hit the ground and never answered a call. I wasn't sure where they went and had three other birds gobbling in different directions and had already got up to get closer to one of them when these birds gobbled about 80 yds below me. I sat down, called one last time, and settled in to play hard to get. About 5 mins later i heard foot steps coming up the hill. It was a jake and two gobblers. The Jake got nervous when I moved my gun, and I had to shoot the smaller of the other two before they leave left.
17 lbs, 1" spurs, beard had beard rot and only 2". Was a fun hunt.
Went and got my son, and we went to another spot. Saw three strutters in a field with hens, but they didn't wanna play and couldn't get in front of them. We plan to be there early in the morn before church and hoping for a double.
