Thinking of getting a Tactacam camera. Couple questions. Does anyone have the solar panel one and is it worth the extra money? I have good service with AT&T and Verizon is there a choice of one or the other? Also what kind of battery life are you getting with the solar and nonsolar units?
 
I've got one of the SK's (solar) new in box if you are interested. I bought it and never got a chance to put it out.. but I run several of the X's and one original Reveal on regular alkaline batteries and depending on how many photos you get you can expect 2000-2500 photos on a set of alkalines.. closer to 4000-4500 on lithium. With the solar, if you've got direct sunlight you should be able to get a ton more pictures if you've got enough sun to keep the battery charged and keep up with amount of pictures you get a day. On the SK you can choose which SIM card you want to use.. it comes with both AT&T and Verizon. You just put whichever card in you want to use for service.
 
I have several and have had great battery life and good service with the ones I have (Gen 1, X and XB). The newer models (XB & SK) come with both SIM cards so you can choose either ATT or Verizon, which ever works best for your geographical area.

Andy, it looks like you changed profile photos. Did you share story about this new buck?

I have 3 Reveal X currently out since mid-October. They send pics everyday and still on a 100% with lithium's. They work well.
My only complaint is that even the HD photos are very pixelated. I want the XR and solar for the movie uploads.

I added an XB to my setup in November. Wish my normal Xs were XB. Love that video…
 
Bought 2 SK's to monitor our lot while we build our house. When you figure the cost of batteries, the SK will more than pay for the difference in short time. They suggest not using the SK on camera setups where you get tons of pics, like feeders. Tactacam suggests buying the bigger solar panel for that type setup.

Tactacam has pretty good support on facebook too. if you have any issues, "real people" usually reply to FB posts real quick and get you going.
