A little late but here is my ky turkey season. Saturday, dad and I set up in a blind in a cut crp field. I had my bow and he had the gun. We set my gobbler decoy (Fred) and two hens out. It was cloudy and day broke around 6. We heard about 12 different gobblers on the roost. At 7, I heard spitting and drumming to the left of the blind. As we peeked that way, two gobblers ran up to Fred. I got drawn back and shot the strutter. He jumped up in the air and limped off about 50 yds and died. The other gobbler stood by Fred and dad had plenty of time to grab his gun and take him. It was my first double and to use by bow was awesome.
My bird weighed 22 lbs, 9 7/8 in. beard, and 1 in. spurs.
Dad's bird weighed 21 lbs, 11 in. beard, and 7/8 in. spurs.
Sunday, dad and I set up in the exact same spot. Since we heard so many gobblers we just knew more would come to the field. With clear skies, day broke around 5:30. we only heard 2 birds on the roost. However, they gobbled all morning. As the hens became vocal, my confidence fell. I began to call to the hens and finally they moved our way. 5 hens came out into the field and I could hear the gobbler spitting and drumming in the woods. They finally appeared and once they saw Fred it was over. They broke from the hens and ran straight to Fred. I drew back and as the strutter turned I let the arrow fly. Number 2 was down. We watched the second gobbler walk around my bird and dad decided to take him. Second double of the weekend. It was 6:55. We had put in about 2.5 hours of hunt time this season. A short awesome season!
Both of these birds had beard rot. My bird also had a double beard. The second beard was 8 in. long but the primary beard was only 4 in. It was the first time dad or I have seen beard rot in person. Both birds had 1 in. spurs.

Just a little side note. My wife was due to deliver our baby on May 8th. My goal was to tag out the first weekend so I could be ready if she went into labor early. My son arrive Tuesday, the 17th. It has been one hell of a week!!! Thanks for reading.
