I do think that LSU's defense
costs them at some point.

OHSmitty":im398z9j said:So we are now 12 weeks and 10 games into the 2019 college FBS football season. You know who the Committee says is the top 4. The nerds and data at SP+ and F+ both say Bama is #2 and OSU is #1 (and F+ even says Clemson is #3 and LSU is #4). Humans like LSU's wins over CFP ranked Alabama #5, UF #11, and AUB #15 compared to OSU's wins over Wisky #12 and Cincy #19 and Clemson's wins over ........ Did you see where the AAC has 3 teams in the CFP top 25 while the ACC has just one? Let's take a look at the three teams based on just a little bit of the data.
OSU is the only FBS team that is top 5 in SP+ offense (#4) and defense (#1). Clemson is close at #6 and #3, respectively. Likewise, based on NCAA total offense and total defense stats, OSU and Clemson are the only teams in the top 5 in both total offense and total defense. OSU is 4 and 1, while Clemson is 3 and 2. LSU? I love me some Jeaux Burreaux and that offense is dynamic and #2 in both SP+ and NCAA total offense, but that defense is ...... not an SEC-worthy defense at 29th in SP+ and #47 in NCAA total defense.
I saw this last year with my team. It started in game 1 and never changed the entire season - an offense putting up historically great numbers unlike any offense in my history as a fan of my team, which spans 50 years. But the defense was also unlike any seen that I could recall and it was bad. Historically awful. I can't recall an LSU defense as bad as this one is. I'm surprised LSU hasn't stumbled, and maybe they will, but I doubt it, against annually overrated TAM (like I've said, I've watched college football for at least 50 years and I can never recall TAM winning a darn thing).
Let's just look at 4 games that span LSU's season, games 2, 4, 11, and 12:
Game 2 vs Texas (currently 6-4, a coach now on the hot seat, SP+ #9 in offense, NCAA #20 in total offense) and Texas and it's vertically challenged offense put up 38 points on 530 yards total offense (409 yards passing by Sam Ehlinger!!!!!!).
Game 4 vs Vanderbilt (currently 2-8, SP+ #99 in offense, NCAA total offense #126 (there are only 130 teams in FBS)!) and LSU gave up another 38 points, but I guess a more respectable 374 yards of total offense but to the 126th worst offense in FBS. Neither OSU nor Clemson have yet given up more than 300 yards of offense in a game this season.
Game 11 vs Alabama. OK the only legit, explosive offense LSU has really played (currently 9-1, SP+ offense #3, NCAA total offense #8). But wholly cow! 41 points, 541 yards of total offense, including 418 freaking yards passing to a QB, granted a warrior, but a warrior passing off one leg.
Game 12 vs Mississippi (currently 4-7, SP+ offense #63, NCAA total offense #28). Maybe alleged DBU finally got it together, but LSU's defense still gives up 37 points and a whopping 614 yards of total offense, but this time 402 yards of rushing!!!
When a defense gives up numbers like that to the likes of Texas, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi, what do you think is going to happen when that defense goes up against top 5 offenses of either OSU or Clemson? What happened against Alabama? Do you think that powerful LSU offense is going to be able to outscore OSU and/or Clemson when both of those teams are going to also bring a top 5 defense? I don't think so. I think LSU better not look past UGA too. Oh, and the last time OSU faced a Dave Arranda defense, we put up 59 on him. But that has to wait. Have to take care of other business first.

He said that Clemson would clearly be the favorite to win it all right now. I think he said they'd be favored over OSU by 2-2.5, 4 pt over LSU, 6-7 against Bama, 8 against GA, and all others at least 14.

I don't think UGA is going to be able to handle LSU but LSU is not going to last when they get up OSU or Clemson. You made some great Arguments about Vandy, ALABAMA and Texas Putting points up on them. Their Defense is not going to keep them a #1 team.

Since that close game that lost them the #1 spot in the polls, they fell back to just outside the spotlight and are lurking in the shadows ready to pounce. All the talk and attention has been on these other teams instead of them. They've been showing up, doing their business and moving on week by week. They look to go into final stretch with a healthy team too.
