Talk about a buck declining…….

Looks like he was shot just below the shoulder and assuming just below the brisket after it went through the leg. My guess is he makes it but I'd shoot him if given the opportunity.

And this is what deer hunting has become.
No wonder I have quit.
The talk, gibberish and culture just stinks anymore.
You eluded to my post as being gibberish and indicating similar mindsets have caused you to quit deer hunting? I just dont see anything controversial at all in this thread.

What a dumbass post. What offended you? That he has his own land that he can manage the deer heard how he chooses and don't kill the first brown it's down deer that walks by? That he wants to manage for older bucks on his properties?
@redblood I think he can make it but won't ever be the same. And will have a hard life. If given the opportunity I'd take him.

Shots through legs usually survive. Not a guarantee he will live, but I would say high-odds he lives. I've seen and trail-camera photographed deer with three legs - just a healed stump instead of the leg.

I killed a 3 legged buck in I think 1992. He was missing a front leg. No idea what happened to him but it was completely healed.

He may recover somewhat, bit he will never be the same, and he won't ever be able to outrun coyotes. If you have a yote problem, they will eventually catch up with him.

I would make him my number 1 target for the remainder of the season.

Great eye! I totally missed that looking at the video on my cellphone.

That hit is low enough where he will most likely survive. Good chance the leg below that just rots and falls off. After he has had a chance to hypertrophy his shoulder muscles on the other side to compensate, he will get around just fine.

But that is the best rack he will ever have.

I agree with that.

With an injury like that, I'd reckon to bet he's in the same general area and will be until he heals or dies. Makes it easier to hunt him.
Not in my experience. Makes them very nocturnal and weary. He will most likely shed early as well. Unless very hurt then it's a race between time. He will probably turn to food thats the best chance. That deer while hurt will most likely survive. Infection is the real issue honestly. But it will probably be his biggest rack, but not necessarily. Had one shot last year by a neighbor he was hit high and he put on 8 to 10 inches and still symmetrical. Who knows, it's all speculation.

I've seen a three legged deer run and if healed you can't tell the difference from a four legged deer . Walking is a different story . First lease i was on in Giles county a guy killed a huge three legged doe . The guy that ran the farm said she'd been that way for a couple years . The guy that shot her said he could tell somthing was off until he put a bullet through her then she ran like a scalded dog for about 50 yards .
