On the property I am hunting the fields have been planted and the grass (calling it grass because I have no clue what it is) is almost past my knees. The birds I have seen lately have been walking the fence lines around the fields - is the grass too tall for them to feel comfortable?

Good question, I cant answer it though... I think I have seen turkeys in tall grass, but how thick is your grass? Maybe it's too dense?

So be right there to meet them as they are walking around the edges. Its high on my place, much higher than normal for this early in the year, but Friday I watched a hen eating seeds and insects in the middle of the high grass, and it didn't seem to impair her travel.

I have seen plenty of turkeys in tall grass over my knees. I have seen them walking in fields of it and they will lay down and hide in it as-well. Just the other day I was in my truck leaving my hunting spot and saw a hen in some tall grass to my left. She saw my truck and just sat down and I couldn't see her anymore. I've had gobblers do the same.

I've seen birds bed down in tall grass twice in the last week. One was a hen obviously tending a nest, but the other birds were gobblers. yes they laid down right in the middle of the field in high grass. you could only see the periscope head pop up in the same spot about once every 5-10 mins.

Smaller foodplots with tall grass are great late season set-ups. They may not gobble, but keep your eyes peeled and ears open for drumming.

It seems to me that sometimes they will avoid tall grass early in the morning because its so wet from the morning dew.

It was very wet this morning. It is getting very tall. However, I watched two birds(hen and a gobbler) striping seed heads in the tall grass.
