Thank you to my Tndeer brothers! ā€¦.

When season ends I'm gonna have to bribe one of you diaper barons to show me the ropes. Been seriously considering giving it a try but not really sure where to start. YouTube has a lot but I'm more of a monkey see monkey do. Watching an edited video of a 20yr old climbing a tree doesn't instill much confidence that I can do it without breaking my neck lol

They aren't hard. I fought it for a couple years to. Made fun of a lot of people til I got one.

What all are you using? I bought one 2 years ago I think and have yet to climb a tree with it except for in the yard. I bought the Cruzer XC and 3 tethrd skeletor sticks. Need to find an aider that will work with them to get higher.
I've got a lattitude classic saddle and hawk helium sticks. I use the hawk sticktop platform to keep things simple and fast.
I made my own tether and linemans.

That was my setup. Loved it.

Won't lie, when I got bored in a tree or a lil sore, I'd swing back and forth. Kinda fun :)

What I'm REALLY interested in in one stick and rappelling.
That's how I do it and it's probably the safest and easiest way for me up and down a tree. I have a BIG BOB one stick with an aider, about 35' ish canyon rope and madrock safeguard to ascend/rappel. Once you get familiar with your setup it's simple and stupid quick going up and down

Hang Free website has anything you could possibly need for saddle hunting and has some awesome accessories for one sticking. This link to the triple step sewn climbing aider is a hundred times easier to climb than an amsteel aider I made last year and I use it on skeletor sticks btw. No slipping, not hard to find with you foot, perfect step height, easier to keep your toe into tree, and feels much sturdier.

Also the harken cam cleat mod with the amsteel full bury rope mod from hang free is the way to go as well if you are one sticking. Makes it so much easier to undo your stick and move it up and reattach to the tree quickly and quietly. I switched to this cam cleat and rope mod and it is a game changer. I almost gave up on saddle hunting until I made these changes and a few others to my system.

Im a chubby 62 and it's easier than using a climbing stand, it takes a tad longer but is much quieter. Much safer too.
I agree totally. Last weekend I toted my old steel gorilla climber in to set up for later in season...I remembered why I don't use a climber anymore...lol
