That’s a first

I didn't hear any today either but I'm on the couch. 😂 Heading to Waverly with my kids to see my parents. My lease is 30 minutes from them but my daughter just came home Thursday afternoon and going to her moms when we get back so wanted to stay here with her. First opener I've missed since I started hunting them in the early 90's that I remember.

Heard one in a spot I stopped at while heading to work. Still haven't heard the first one in the Holler this year...even last year there were 3 gobbling each day

I heard 2 yesterday morning and both were very faint gobbles a long ways off. NONE on our place, which is a first in 21 years. Very sad to see the turkey population dwindle like it has.

I have a 30 mile drive to and from work every day. From 2013-2017 every single morning on the way to work from March to May I would see multiple flocks of birds in fields/pastures. From 2018 to now it a rare that I see any turkeys at all. I'm glad for the good ole days for those few years and I'm glad for the ones with good populations still, but this is sad.

Still in winter flocks on my places, so it's feast or famine. Most subordinate birds are still flocked up with the big wad, so roost gobbling has been insane, but quiet on the ground.

Hunted from 530a till 530p yesterday, only heard 1 gobble after flydown at noon. I need the big winter flock a mile down the road from one of my farms to break up and hens to start breeding, so the girls move over to my farm to nest and pull some toms in with them.

They were gobbling like crazy off the roost yesterday. 3 longbeards and 4 jakes all gettin after it. Almost nothing after fly down. Ambulance went by about 9 am and got all the birds to gobble once more. Rest of the day was dead silent. I left at 11 am empty handed. My buddy stayed and killed one at 3 pm! Dedication and patience kills birds for sure.

The turkey blight seems to have hit my place too...there is never a whole lot but always some and gobbling etc...zero this am and no sign...no distant gobbles nor shots heard either...looks like turkeys are going the way of quail and ruffed grouse...

Heard all kinds of gobbling yesterday, today = nothing, nodda , zero. We did kill one yesterday though and a coyote today so time well spent this weekend.
